How to Jump a Dead Battery

How to Jump a Dead Battery

A dead battery is another common inconvenience that many drivers will encounter in their lifetime. And unlike changing a flat tire, this one requires a little help from your friends. So, if you don't want to call a tow truck and you have a willing helper, here is how to get some life back in your car battery. Pay special attention to the connection order - that's one of the most common and overlooked causes for unsuccessful jump-starts.

Before you start:
You'll need:
-jumper cables, so if you don't have any, you may want to make sure your helper brings them. When your helper arrives, have them park close enough to your vehicle so that you can connect the jumper cables to the batteries with plenty of extra slack. Most cables are about six feet long. You should also check your owner's guide for details about your vehicle battery location and terminal placement.

1.Open both vehicle hoods and locate the batteries.

2.Remove any terminal covers and corrosion.

3.Attach the positive (red) jumper cable to the positive (red) terminal of the dead battery. Make sure that both metal clamps are firmly in contact with the terminal.

4.Attach the other end of the positive (red) jumper cable to the positive (red) terminal of the assisting battery.

5.Attach the negative (black) jumper cable to the negative (black) terminal of the assisting battery.

6.Attach the remaining end of the negative (black) jumper cable to an exposed metal part of the disabled vehicle's engine, away from the battery and the carburetor/fuel-injection system.

7.Start the assisting vehicle's engine.

8.Start the disabled vehicle's engine.

9.Allow both vehicles to run connected for about three minutes.

10.While leaving the jumpstarted vehicle running, disconnect the cables in the reverse order that they were attached and close the hoods.

11.Keep the jumpstarted vehicle's engine running for about a half hour to allow the battery to fully charge.

12.Visit St. George Ford Quick Lane to get the jumpstarted battery tested or replaced as soon as you can

Devon Jones, Service Manager | 50 Years of Service!

50 Years of Service! Devon Jones- Service Manager at St. George Ford Lincoln
This month we say, “Farewell” to a wonderful manager and person, Devon Jones. He has been in the business for over 50 years!
Starting in 1961, Devon started working at the age of 15 ½ at Bradshaw Ford located on the St. George Boulevard. His duties were to clean the shop windows, bathrooms, polish the showroom floor, help in the Parts Department, and clean up after the mechanics. In 1963, he moved into the Detail Bay that they nicknamed the “Frog Pond” where he was made head “Frog.” During that time, he washed and detailed vehicles, delivered vehicles to Las Vegas, Nevada, graduated from Dixie High School and began his degree at Dixie College.
In 1966, he started dating his sweetheart, Shirley in January and married her in May. He was drafted into the Navy the following month leaving for San Diego, California on June 21, 1966. The next four years, Devon and Shirley moved to California three times. Devon went to boot camp, lived on two ships, and spent one year on the swift boat to Vietnam. Their first son, Travis, was born while Devon was in Vietnam and was six months old before Devon got to see him. Stationed in Seattle, Washington, Devon got out of the Navy in March of 1970 after being in it 3 years, 11 months, 4 days, 9 hours, 27 minutes, and 9 ½ seconds. They were both very glad to get out of it!
The happy couple moved back to St. George and Devon started back at the Bradshaw Ford Body Shop the day after. In July, 1971, someone convinced Devon that he could make more money working for him so he quit his job and worked for him about a month. He then did road service on Utah Hill and said he did ok doing that in a “Dodge.”
In 1971, Devon started college again at Dixie College and opened his own business called, “Devon’s Auto Body” which he ran out his own home. In 1973 he worked for Ron Lemon at the Phillip 66 Station and in 1974, their second son, Shane, was born. It was at that time that Claron Bradshaw came looking for Devon to become his Shop Foreman. He has worked in the Service Department for the same company (now known as St. George Ford Lincoln), under 4 different owners & 3 different buildings, with his last position being Service Manager.
During the many years in the Service Department, Devon had a daughter, received many awards such as winning a trip to Rome in 1978, Canada in the 80’s, two trips to Mexico in 2009, and saw many changes over the years, but the thing that has always stayed consistent for him has been the friends he has made along the way.
From Lot Boy to Service Manager—50 years of great service!
Thank you, Devon Jones! You will be missed!

Don't let the Construction Keep You Away!

That mound of dirt didn't use to be there!

Ty keeping our vehicles Spic N' Span!

There's no denying it. Construction has begun in full force all around St. George Ford Lincoln. Half our lot has been chopped to bits by the city building a new intersection that will run behind our dealership. We have worked out a deal that will allow us to get back some of our land, but not in the same place. We will be doing some improvements and rearranging of our lot in the next year and we will still be in business and still maintain the quality of service we provide right now.
We're just giving you a heads up of things to come!
So, if you can stand a little bit of dirt, stop by and see us. We'll even give you a personal tour of the construction site (viewed from our parking lot) on one of our golf carts! We're certain no other dealer in town can give you such a tour!
No Hard Hats required!

Ford Passes Toyota in Consumer Reports Quality Ranking!

Ford Passes Toyota in
Consumer Reports Quality Ranking!

January 5, 2011
10:56 am

Honda and Ford have pushed past Toyota in consumer views of quality, according to Consumer Reports’ 2011 Car Brand Perception Survey.

A series of massive recalls over the last 18 months tarnished Toyota’s reputation as a leader in quality, the magazine said Tuesday. Toyota also paid nearly $50 million in fines last year to federal safety regulators for failing to promptly inform regulators of defects in its vehicles and delaying recalls.

Honda ranked first, with 25% of the car owners participating in the survey naming it as the manufacturer with the best quality in the study. Ford was second, at 23%, and Toyota finished third at 19%, a drop of 11 percentage points for the former leader. Chevrolet, at 16%, and Mercedes-Benz, at 15%, rounded out the top five.

Despite Toyota’s dive in the quality rankings, the Japanese automaker still scored the highest in overall brand perception -– an amalgamation of separate rankings of safety, quality, value, performance, environmentally friendliness, design/style and technology/innovation.

Toyota, with an overall score of 147, narrowly edged out Ford, which scored 144 points on the Consumer Reports scale, because of its big lead as an automaker that is considered environmentally friendly, said C. Matt Fields, a magazine spokesman.

“Statistically, it really is a dead heat,” he said.

Consumers in the study ranked safety, 65%; quality, 57%; and value, 51%, as the most important factors in their car-buying decisions. When it comes to safety, Volvo was named by 70% as the leader. It had a giant 50-point advantage over second-place Ford at 20%. Honda and Subaru were both at 17% and Mercedes-Benz was fifth, with 14%.

In terms of value, Ford, at 25%, squeaked by Honda, 24%, and Toyota, 23%, as the brand most mentioned by consumers. Hyundai, with 17%, and Chevrolet, at 15%, rounded out the value rankings. The full report can be found here.

Consumer Reports saying that Ford has moved up in perception and that Toyota has declined matches other auto-market trends.

The Ford brand outsold Toyota’s line of vehicles last year for the first time since 2006.

Toyota saw its share of the U.S. auto market fall to 15.2% in 2010 from 17% in the previous year.

Meanwhile, Ford’s market share rose to 16.7% last year, up more than a full percentage point. This was the second consecutive year of rising market share for Ford and its first back-to-back increase

since 1993.

Also last year, Toyota was the subject of more than a quarter of the complaints drivers filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, according to a study by auto information company Edmunds.com. Its ratio of complaints to 100,000 vehicles sold jumped to nearly 87 so far in 2010 from 37 a year earlier.

Among large automakers, Ford and Honda had the lowest complaint ratios.
